30 Best Hearty Winter Soups & Stews To Keep You Warm!

The winter season is here again. What better to keep you warm on those chilly days, then a nice bowl of homemade soup or stew? I can think of one thing that is better….Not having to work too hard for it!

I must admit, I am a bit of an addict when it comes to soups. I do enjoy a hearty stew here or there, as well. However, soups, are my love. I enjoy making them and I could literally live on soup if that were my only option. You would not hear me complain.

Cream Of Crab addiction

It’s funny, actually…my husband pokes fun at me sometimes, over my soup fetish. Years ago, he brought home a bit of cream of crab soup he had made at the restaurant that day. I have been chasing that demon forever now.

No One…and I mean, No One has ever been able to measure up to his cream of crab recipe.

When we go out to eat, he knows I will likely be trying the cream of crab soup if it’s on the menu. Why? My husband doesn’t always feel like cooking. If the mood strikes me for this soup, it is crucial that I know whether or not there is a place to go order it, that won’t put the concept to shame. I know, I sound brutal. I blame my husband for that one.

Soups and stews have been around forever and there is good reason why. They are filling. They become the product of getting rid of leftovers sometimes. And they are absolutely Delicious!

Homestyle chicken noodle soup has been a favorite dish of mine, for as long as I can remember. My grandfather often made it when I was growing up and I’ve always followed his spin on the recipe. As he always did, I add a cup or two of cubed potatoes, corn, and peas to my mix. I also like to stir in a bit of montreal chicken, for a little added flavor. Delicious every time and even better the next day!

(Tip: If you do add a bit of potato, add a little extra broth as well. The potatoes will soak up some liquid, so you will want to make up for that with extra broth.)

4. Delicious Ham & Split Pea Soup

11. Olive Garden Chicken Gnocchi Soup

I have to admit, there was a time when we lived just a couple of miles down the road from an Olive Garden, and I think my husband started to get bored with me…lol! For a while there, anytime we went out for lunch, my preferred choice was the Olive Garden. I was madly in love with their soup, salad, and breadstick special. My favorite part about this recipe is the broth and heavy cream. I’m not a big fan of the strong tomato flavor that some soups can have. 29. Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

slow cooker beef stroganoff

This is a great recipe for traditional beef stroganoff. It requires absolutely no time to prep and the slow cooker does the rest. The only thing I do differently, is add frozen peas near the end of cook time. It adds a bit of a pop to the overall flavor and if added near the end, the peas still retain a bit of firmness as opposed to getting mushy. Delicious every time!
