What is one of the most delicious recipes you can make during the Fall season (or any season for that matter)? I have the answer for that. Braised country style beef ribs, slow cooked in a crockpot!
Not only is this dinner option mouth watering, but it is so easy to make with little effort. The prep work takes about 20-25 minutes from start to finish. After that, the slow cooker does all of the hard work.
The end result?
A cozy meal that involves fall apart ribs and any sides you wish to include. We went with creamy mashed potatoes and peas for additional sides. The ribs already had a load of veggies to take from the crockpot.
Psst…adding in veggies to the crockpot at the beginning just like you would a pot roast, makes the flavor so much better, and the meal so much more filling!
Not only is this recipe perfect for busy weekdays, but it is a timeless combination of flavors everyone can get behind.
So yummy even the pickiest of eaters will come back for seconds!
Ingredients you will need
- 1 Large carrot
- 1 Large yellow onion
- 2 Medium size tomatoes
- 4 Cloves of garlic
- 3 Celery stalks
- 1 1/2 Cups beef broth
- 1 Packet brown gravy mix (any brand)
- Ground ginger
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Paprika
- Kosher salt
- Ground black pepper
- White pepper
Tools Needed
- Cutting board
- Whisk
- Measuring cup
- Skillet
- 6 Quart slow cooker

Step By Step Instructions
1. Roughly chop onion, celery, tomatoes, carrot, and garlic. Set aside.

2. Generously coat each side of the ribs with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Massage into meat.

3. Preheat skillet over medium – high heat for about 5-7 minutes. Add cooking spray to the pan. Add ribs.

4. Sear both sides of ribs (Approximately 3-4 minutes) until all sides are a nice brown, but still rare on the inside.

5. Remove ribs from pan and set aside to rest.

6. Turn heat down on pan to medium.

7. Add 1 cup broth to pan and whisk to incorporate pan drippings. Bring to a low boil.

8. Once broth comes to a boil, add packet of gravy mix and whisk until blended. Continue on low boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

9. Add cut vegetables to crockpot. Top with 1 tablespoon each of ground ginger, garlic powder, onion powder, white pepper, and paprika.

10. Stir in broth/gravy mixture to crockpot. Add an additional 1/2 cup of broth. Stir. Top with seared ribs.

11. Cover crockpot and set temperature to high. Let it cook on high for about 2 hours.
12. Turn temperature down to low and let it cook for at least another hour…maybe 2.
P.S…the longer it cooks on low, the more it falls apart at the end.

13. Serve along side some of the crockpot vegetables and any other favorite sides. Drizzle with a bit of the broth and enjoy!
