When most of us think of a vacation, we are looking for something new, exciting, and memorable. We want our next vacation to be so memorable, that we can’t help but relay our experiences to anyone and everyone who will listen.

Let’s face it…Life is hectic, to say the least. We need that next thing to look forward to. For most of us, it is a wonderful escape from reality if only for a few days.

Some of us want a travel destination that is close to home and budget friendly.

Some of us want our next vacation to be in a faraway land we have never been to before. Awe-inspiring and life changing, because it pushes us out of our comfort zone.

I personally feel all of those scenarios are begging me to seek them out.

That is the exact purpose of this list of amazing travel destinations I decided to put together. To push the boundaries and seek out the places that will leave you breathless, inspired, and absolutely amazed.

Personally, I am intrigued by any vacation spot that will blow my mind completely, as was done when I visited Sedona and The Grand Canyon years ago.

All of that having been said, here are the best 20 places in the world that I have added to my bucket list. These are places everyone should visit before they die.

United States Destinations

1. Alaska (Fairbanks) – Northern Lights

While there are several places to see the majestic aurora borealis …Fairbanks, Alaska is one of the easiest destinations to get to, for a lovely view of those northern lights.

With the international airport nearby and an abundance of budget-mid range accommodation choices available, Fairbanks is one of the better options for viewing the lights.

Not to mention wildlife is plentiful in that region as well.

2. Arizona (Grand Canyon), (Sedona)

The Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful parts of the great state of Arizona. Absolutely a must see for anyone who wants to experience a bucket list worthy vacation.

When you stand on the “edge of the world” from any observatory point along the south rim, you get a truly memorable experience you will talk about for years to come.

Sedona is a definite must for a fully inspiring trip. If you stay in Flagstaff, you can plan plenty of small day trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Winslow, and others.

From geysers to hot springs, wildlife, rock climbing and hiking, there is no shortage of things to do at Yellowstone National Park.

Whether you want to have a more adventurous experience or a more laid back fishing expedition, you will no doubt get a nice dose of inspiration during your trip.

If the Great Egyptian Pyramids are not already on your bucket list, they certainly should be!

A day trip from the capital of Egypt (Cairo), you can experience first hand, these inspiring man made structures still standing after thousands of years.

Whether you decide to take an Uber, taxi, or get the full experience traveling by camel back, seeing the pyramids and sphinx in person, is definitely a life changing trip for anyone who takes it.

5. Great Wall Of China

Whether you are most interested in the views, hiking, easy transportation or history, any section of this awe inspiring structure will leave you breathless.

6. Himalayan Mountains

7. India (New Delhi or Delhi)

Depending on the type of life changing experience you wish to have with your trip to India, you may prefer Delhi or New Delhi.

The best part is, you don’t really have to choose one over the over, as both are neighboring cities. Both are also only a short distance from the Taj Mahal in Agra, for a full experience!

With a blend of delicious food, various cultures, beautiful architecture, and a vibrant street scene, Delhi may be more your speed. Though keep in mind, it can get pretty crowded.

If you’re more into historical structures, art, a slower pace, and a good feel for the locals, New Delhi may be more your speed. It’s also cleaner and a little less crowded than the busy streets of (Old) Delhi.

Either way, there are plenty of transportation options for visiting all 3 cities for the maximum experience.

8. Italy – Rome

Ah yes…Rome. If you’re going to visit Italy for a memorable and inspiring experience, Rome is exactly where you should start.

From historical ruins, religious sculptures, and impressive architecture, to beautiful gardens and art galleries…the capital of Italy has it all.

Let’s not forget the amazing food you will find in one of the most sought after vacation spots in the world!

Amalfi Coast Italy

When you have finished touring the city of Rome, take a breather and spend a day or two along the Amalfi Coast. The 3.5 hour long drive from Rome, is well worth the side trip.

With stunning coastal views, cliffs, beaches, and charming seaside towns, Campania, Italy is certain to leave you breathless.

9. Jordan

City of Jordan

History, religion, and hospitality are the top reasons many people like to visit Jordan.

Delicious local food, beautiful landscapes and culture are just a few other reasons to feel inspired to visit this middle eastern country.

Visit the historical archeological city of Petra to see the breath taking rose colored stone structures. Or visit the Dana Biosphere Reserve for a stargazing experience like no other.

Whether you are there for the beauty, history, or the local interaction, Jordan is among the top places to visit for a life changing trip.

10. Kyoto, Japan

As one of the oldest municipalities of Japan, Kyoto is known for being the heart of traditional Japanese culture.

Between temples, shrines, and Zen gardens, there is no shortage of spiritual places to visit if enlightenment is what you seek.

If you want to see the beautiful geisha in person, you may even be able to spot a few while strolling one of the meticulously maintained streets.

Other tourist attractions and things to do, include the Arashiyama bamboo grove, tea ceremonies, samurai training, and the Philosopher’s Path for admiring the beautiful cherry blossom trees.

11. Morocco

History, architecture, culture, and food are just a few reasons to add Morocco to your bucket list.

Stunning beaches along the Mediterranean sea, mountain ranges, and the Sahara Desert are a few others.

Personally, it’s the food that draws me to this country the most.

Can you say AMAZING?

From the first time I was invited to a Moroccan restaurant, I was absolutely in love. So Yummy.

The people are super hospitable. The rich textured fabric displayed, and the comfortable pillow seating were just the icing on the cake.

Oh, and the belly dancers only added to the experience.

I would love to visit the country it all originated from, for a truly authentic experience.

12. Norway

Between the breath taking mountain backdrop and charming seaside villages, to the delicious seafood and views of the Northern Lights, Norway is definitely an inspiring place to visit.

Whether it be fishing you want to enjoy, a dog sledding adventure, or just simply to take in your surroundings, Norway is not be overlooked.

13. Paris France

Seeing the magnificent Eiffel Tower isn’t the only reason to visit Paris at least once in your life, though it is a good reason.

Art, history, and amazing food are other reasons for sure.

Spend an afternoon visiting the Musée du Louvre or take in the iconic statues sprinkled through the city.

Between the various gardens, shopping options, cathedrals, and other impressive architecture to be seen, Paris is a life changing trip everyone should experience.

14. Rain Forest Vacation

Have you ever been to visit a rain forest? I have, and let me tell you…it is a beautiful experience.

Aside from the obvious bouts of rain you may experience on and off, there is also an abundance of exotic wildlife, waterfalls, and lush green landscape to take in.

A few of the most popular rain forest locations to visit are Brazil, Belize or Peru,

Any of these rain forests will surely allow the opportunity to encounter plant and animal species you have seen only on tv.

Dominica

I personally, have only visited (Dominica), thus far, and it was amazing!

Hot springs, semi-active volcanos, and lovely views are just a view of the things you will experience on this little Caribbean island.

15. Scotland

Lush green mountainsides, various castles, and an abundance of history is what you will find when you visit Scotland.

Visit Edinburgh for a leisurely bus tour around the city or the National Museum for a deep dive into the history of Scotland.

More for an adventure of nature? Take in the beauty of the more rugged highlands, where the landscape is lush, green, and a sight to behold.

Either way, Scotland is certainly a vacation experience that will educate, inspire, and leave you in awe.

16. Thailand

Thailand offers such a wide range of inspiring experiences, that I couldn’t just narrow it down to one specific area of the country. It really depends on what your interests are.

If breathtaking mountain views and green landscapes are what you are looking for, Mae Hong Song or Doi Inthanon may be more your speed.

If spiritual temples and structures are more inspiring to you, the White Temple Chiang Rai or the Silver Temple Chiang Mai may be the experiences you prefer.

I personally would love to visit the turquoise waters of the Surin Islands or Koh Yao Noi before I die.

17. Vietnam

With such diverse scenery throughout the country, there’s something for everyone in Vietnam…all of which is breathtaking and inspiring.

Between lush green mountains, limestone formations, caves to explore, and delicious local cuisine to satisfy your appetite, any part of Vietnam you wish to visit will surely provide you with a memorable experience.

Final Thoughts

While some of these travel destinations may take a bit of planning for that ultimate experience, I did not choose them because they were easy.

I chose them, because they inspire me and make me want to start the planning today!

It may take me a lifetime to reach some of these places, but I’m sure when I do…It will be an absolutely amazing experience that I shout out to anyone who listens 🙂
